Just finished this. It is a typical suspenseful. fiction of the 90s. A tough, rogue detective, main character Lucas Davenport is the star of the Minneapolis, Minnesota police force whom all the ladies love. Realistically he breaks the law as he tries to catch a serial killer. It was perfectly serviceable book, if a bit formulaic. Think beach read or plane read.Just finished this. I understand the kerffufle over these books. If I was 15, this would have been my everything. The problem is I am not 15. The main character is an assassin, the sole heir to a murdered dynasty and a an incredibly powerful magic user. And the love interest for four different characters across three books. I just don't find her compelling in any way. Did I mention she has done all this by the age of 19?
Meanwhile, the most interesting character of Manon, the Irontooth, gets a few chapters. Where's her series?

LIght and fluffy entry in the Elephant and Piggie Reads series. This means that Elephant and Piggie bookend the story but are not the focus. The main narrative is about a hippo, two squirrels and a crocodile trying to split three cookies between the four of them.
It's ok, but would be a good read-aloud before starting division.LIght and fluffy entry in the Elephant and Piggie Reads series. Good collection of the comic. Gail Simone is very good writer, making characters like Catman interesting and complex.

Sweet story about a family's tradition of eating out after visiting the mosque. Nice explanation of the halal rules at the back. Would be an excellent addition to a classroom library.

Lighthearted and straightforward. Nice illustrations, but there's nothing special about this book. It's ok.
In the hands of a talented reader, this book could be a fun read aloud.

An ok steampunk adventure. I find the thing the most troubling in this book is
Spoiler
the romance between the captain and Arabella. He is significantly older than her and it, quite frankly, came off as creepy.

I honestly picked this story up because of the title. It's a fluffy formulated mystery. Nothing to write home about but a good way to burn some hours on a summer vacation.

Tara*Starr and Elizabeth were best friends, even though they came from very different families. Elizabeth's dad has a good job in high-tech and her mom stays home. They live a life of luxury. Tara*Starr's parents live a very different life. They had Tara when they were very young, and they lived a carefree, or perhaps even careless, lifestyle.
But this has all changed. Elizabeth's parents have grown-up and cleaned-up their life. They have moved to a new city to pursue better opportunities. This has torn Tara and Elizabeth apart. They vow to keep their friendship together through an exchange of letters. In doing so we see how both girls deal with the unraveling of their lives. Tara has to deal with a loss of autonomy as her parents become parents. Elizabeth has to deal with the repercussions of her father losing his job. Both girls reach out through their correspondence and find a way to support each other, as well as vent and celebrate.
Told in the form of letters, authors Danziger and Martin each take on the voice of one protagonists, helping to keep the characters separate from each other. It is a quick read that may feel a little dated with the advent of email and social networking, but still has some validity for young people today.Tara*Starr and Elizabeth were best friends, even though they came from very different families. John Perry and Jane Sagan are no longer part of the Colonial forces. Retired, they are community leaders on the colony world of Huckleberry. Their life is good, with their adopted daughter and some hobby farming on the side. But then duty comes calling and both Perry and Sagan are needed to help found the new colony of Roanoke. This colony will be different in that it will be made up colonists from existing colonies, rather than drawn directly from Earth. But both former soldiers find out that the colony name was deliberately chosen as the Colonial government as they have not so nice plans for their newest colony. Can Perry and Sagan find a solution to the political machinations and save the colony ?
This third installment of the Old Man's War series continues the story of the two fan favourites. Quick moving and engaging, it's a good read. The only thing I wish would be that we get more of what was happening to Zoe when she was off world and that Scalzi spent more time on the intelligent species that already inhabited Roanoke. Although Scalzi does address the first issue in a later volume, the absence is still felt.

Neddie's father decides to move the family from their affluent lifestyle in New Work. So the family embarks on a cross country train trip where Neddie is left behind at a stop. Through a series of coincidences and strange occurrences, Neddie acquires a small turtle that appears to be an important artifact. Now Neddie is trying to protect the turtle as mysterious forces seek to use it to destroy the world.
Frenetic. Breakneck. Disjointed. All these words can be used to describe author Daniel Pinkwater's writing style. Yet the story is enjoyable, fantastical and engaging. Neddie is an everyman called to do great things by fate, allowing the audience to identify with him and ride along as a spiritual wing man. An engaging read set in early 20th century America that is a very fun read.Neddie's father decides to move the family from their affluent lifestyle in New Work.
