a Throne of Glass Novel

I liked this but I saw the ending "twist" coming a mile away. I'm ok with that though because, for once, the character already knew and didn't have their whole world turned upside down. I liked that Celaena isn't going to go through the typical "who am I now, my whole life was a lie" nonsense. I am a little tired of all that. I loved Chaol in this and thought Dorian had a lot of growth. I definitely was surprised by the turn in Nehemia's story. Chaol was the winner here though. I loved the addition of Archer and how Celaena was manipulating the situation she found herself in as well. My major problem with this: and a reason for a star deduction, was the romance between Chaol and Celaena. Don't get me wrong here, I love them together and think they are much better suited for each other than her and Dorian. But I really disliked how easily Celaena was manipulated and how quickly she shunned Chaol. All over something that was a reasonable action for him to take, completely in character. It wasn't like he went out of the way to make life hard for her. He simply did what he has always done and she completely blames him for everything. I felt she was really fickle here and that annoyed me to no end. Nothing that happened was Chaol's fault and there is no reason why a character like Celaena wouldn't have seen that. She is a warrior, a survivor...she should have suspected the manipulation to begin with and should have had more loyalty and faith in the man she loves. Otherwise, though, I am happy with where the tale went and what it is setting up. I feel like we had a solid progression in the main story line as well as growth for the prominent characters. Looking forward to the next one. Hopefully Celaena won't be so susceptible to obvious political machinations.
