WARNING: "Santa Clawed" is not a Christmas Horror Story!" (smile) But it is a rather well written mystery novel authored by Rita Mae Brown. Much like Mary Higgins Clark a prolific writer, her large number of novels features comic relief from her character's pet cats. "Santa Clawed" is one her best! This cozy style of book is basically a story that has limited violence, with no gore, or explicit sex, or profanity, but still holds the reader's interests through fine descriptive writing, deep character development and perfect timing. Santa Clawed tells the story of a small town rocked by a homocide during the shopping rush at an annual Christmas Tree sale where the body of a lifeless Monk has be found on the tree lot. There are many twists and turns, great character inter-play, intriguing relationships, and wonderful background settings. The story's hero is a house wife and mother who has a special talent for getting to the bottom of things and "She Has Crime Fighting Cats". The town's Monks are known for producing some of the great wines in America and have become rich as a result. But with the great success came notoriety and strangers in town. The pet owner and wife see connections between the Monastery, the strangers in town and the money. Assisted by the logic of her crime solving cats, she embarks on a journey of elemental deduction, piecing together clues while dealing with family life. This has just the right mix! I would highly recommend this title to all the cozy readers and non-cozy readers! Happy Holidays and a Very Merry Christmas...
