My French Whore by Gene Wilder is a whirlwind of a book for anyone who loves period timepieces with a hint of a good romance! The title at first can be very…. bold. But once you start you will not stop, it begins with a character named peachy who escapes a bad marriage by looking for an adventure and ends up joining the war and any adventure that peachy wants he gets. A lot of it. It’s a short book I must admit but Wilder's writing is economical and intertwines easter egg homages to the great Hemingway with little bits and bobs of silly comedy and errors that makes the essence of the book come alive. The story overall is charming with chapters of such a poignant emotion it will surprise you! Lots and lots of poignant emotions. With a comical, love, emotional essence of the book I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a suspenseful/love/period timepiece story! Sitting on the edge of my seat wondering if peachy's cover was going to be blown was the highlight of reading it! I more than recommend anyone to read this book! Absolutely a fun read!
