The skeleton tree was filled with strong emotion, strong characters and strong action from the beginning to the end. And also a strong sense of setting and characters you both want to love and hate. The book is a little like the book Hatchet as it is a thrilling adventure survival story set in the Alaskan wilderness in very recent time. But it’s a great thriller/survival book to get your mind into it. The only negative thing about this book was that I thought the flow of the story was choppy at times which disrupted my ability to fully visualize the story. 3.3/5 - @momo of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Chris and Frank are alone, castaways from a shipwreck. Frank acts like a jerk towards Chris, who prefers the company of a raven. But they’ll have to work together to survive, let alone make it home. Iain Lawrence’s “The Skeleton Tree” is taken from the perspective of an ordinary kid. It describes the situation as an imaginative kid would see it, and even pins down points of view that we adults should look into. I personally hope Chris never loses that imagination. Everything is simple enough to be from the perspective of a kid, but it has enough complexities to keep it interesting for readers of any age, especially if they’re fond of wildlife. It’s books like these that make me want to read more books by Canadian authors instead of all those New York Times “Bestsellers.” - @R2-D2 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
