This is a fun family comedy about a 1962 40 HP VW Beetle with a major personality, named "Herbie", and his three human friends, Jim, Carole, and Tennessee. The primary setting is San Francisco and extending to other parts of northern California. Enjoyable viewing both for kids and adults. For the boomer's who missed it when it was shown in the theaters in 1969, this DVD presents a great opportunity to see the fun you missed. For the younger folk, this 1969 Disney story still plays well, especially b/c of the continuing popularity of driving restored pre-1976 air-cooled VW Beetles. For the film buff, and the car buff, the extra's on the DVD set show how the stunts, sound effects, and other special effects were performed. Back in 1969, computers weren't available for this function, so there was a whole lot of inventive improvising done by the Disney team. And for the most part -- while some of the effects might seem a bit corny today -- the Disney team's hard work on this film paid off in spades. Very much recommended.
