Probably not quite the book for everyone. In fact, I've begun to see that, while there's a mystery in there somewhere and the characters I like, much of it is filler: costume change, what the characters are eating for every meal, what alcoholic drinks they're consuming, and sex-capades. I find that I can easily read one of them in a couple hours, sometimes even less, if I skip the filler which adds nothing to my understanding of the plot. The TV series are much better, because they show you the costumes, eliminate much of the eating--thank God, since I usually end up eating more myself when I read the books--and keep one focused on the details of the mystery. Usually a book allows for more side plots, but these tend to add words rather than substance.
