A young boy and his parents flee their troubled homeland for the relative safety of a refugee camp in a neighbouring country. Food is scarce and his father makes the unexpected decision to buy a map instead of bread one day. However, the boy becomes fascinated with the giant map and spends long hours imagining himself in other places across the globe. This story is inspired by the author's own childhood during World War II when he and his family had to flee Poland.
