Each book in the Chronicles of St Mary’s is a fun, interesting read, and perfect for a satisfying summer stretch of enjoying an entertaining writer. This series won’t likely appeal to everyone but read a chapter in any of the series and you will know you are in good hands as the narrative twists and turns into historical knots. Don’t call it time travel, though. Consider the characters are like this motto: “Warning: death a distinct possibility - historians recording true history.”

This is a great series: everything I like. History, time travel, humor, romance, death defying action, interesting and some zany characters, and totally unpredictable plot.
The Chronicles of St. Mary's is a series you don't want to miss. Once you start reading there is no putting the book down until you get to the final page. There are nine of them in the series, each a self contained story but it its best to read them in order starting with Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor. You will be taken from one madcap adventure to another in each superbly researched historical event. The author has the ability to bring everything alive, as though you have a ring side seat. Her descriptions of historical battles, from Troy to Hastings to the Somme, are vivid and powerful. She puts you at the scene of the murder of Thomas Becket and death of Joan of Arc and goes as far as prehistoric era. You never know what is next!
The setting is the St. Mary's Institute of Historical Research, whose goal is to “investigate major historical events in contemporary time”. Historians are sent back to merely observe, not interfere. But seldom does this actually occur; Max and her teammates are often running for their lives for nothing goes as expected. This is certainly confirmed in the 6th book, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
How about everything?
