Incredible music, eye-candy and pure entertainment!
Now that the purple rain movie is now off the shelf, can some one please donate another purple rain movie? Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I certainly found this 1984 rock musical/melodrama to be even more disappointing than I could believe possible. For one thing, it was really badly staged.
I think that Prince should have steered clear of trying to be an actor. He was almost unbearable to watch in this film. He had no depth-of-character, at all.
Apparently, the music in this film was supposed to be some of Prince's best - But, if that was so - It left me completely unmoved. I can't believe how many times I've heard someone rave to me about Prince's music.
In 1984's "Purple Rain" - (singer/songwriter/guitarist) Prince plays "The Kid" who is a struggling musician (natch), trying to achieve his ultimate goal of recognition, fame, and, yes, of course, fortune.
This rock-star vanity production played out (with all of its personal dramas thrown in for good measure) very much like an extended MTV music video.
Purple Rain's story (presented in the predictable "Flashdance" mold) was shamefully formulaic right from the word "Go!".
I guess one has to be a pretty big "Prince" fan in order to appreciate "Purple Rain" more than I did - 'Cause I found it to be quite tedious and tiresome a good part of the time.
It's about the music; not the movie quality! RIP Prince. This film has only gotten better with age, it's a classic to me.
I miss Prince, too; however I think it needs to be said that whoever produced this film was an amateur. the staging, the camera angles, the self-aware acting, it's terrible. the purple rain angle could have been covered by a royal treatment of the epic song itself, visually.
What can I say...Prince is a musical genius! The story is a little all-over-the-place, but I get it. The music was the reason I finished the movie to the end. I don't remember much from watching it as a young adult, but it is a movie you should watch. If you watched the Dave Chappelle skit of Prince playing basketball, it'll be funny to hear some of those one-liners.
Purple Rain is a time capsule, and the performances at First Ave are phenomenal. The acting and dialogue are sometimes campy, but for me that just adds to the fun. The movie is rated R for sexuality, some nudity, language and some violent content.
I can't believe taht Prince died man....he had the best songs that I have evr listened to
The DVD i got from the library doesn't work.
