You've played the game. Now read the legend of how it all began...Long ago, in an ancient and distant realm called the Kingdom of Backyard, there lived a warrior named ROCK. Meanwhile in the Empire of Mom's Home Office, a second great warrior sought the glory of battle. And his name was PAPER. At the same time, in the Kitchen Realm, in the tiny village of Junk Drawer, lived a third warrior. They called her SCISSORS. These three were the strongest, smartest, and fastest in all the land. Time and again they beat the most fearsome opponents they could find: an apricot, a computer printer--even frozen, breaded, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets! But when the warriors finally meet each other, the most epic round of battles begins...and never ends. That is why, to this day, children around the world honor these worthy adversaries by playing ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS!--Provided by Publisher.

I’m guessing that a lot of you are familiar with the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. I loved that game as a kid. And if you know a reader who loves silly books, The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors is sure to be a winner.

This is the chronicle of a series of battles between the now-famous Rock, Paper, and Scissors – as well as a cast of other fierce, yet ridiculous characters. Prepare yourself, though! This is an epic legend that includes lots of immature humor. I’m also giving you fair warning that you might find yourself helplessly drawn to playing countless rounds of the game.

This book is written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Adam Rex. It won the 2019 Colorado Children’s Picture Book Award. These awards are chosen by kids instead of adults. Some are silly, some are sweet, some are serious...but if you know a reluctant reader, you are sure to find a book on this awards list that will win their seal of approval!

It is recommended for ages 4-8, but older kids will enjoy this book, as well!

This is a great book. My boys loved it. Prior to reading the book; rock, paper, scissors is how we have come to settle many of "I'm first" "No I'm first" disputes. So they were excited to read it.

Chloe, a participant of SPL's TD Summer Reading Club, rated this book 5 stars! She thought it was interesting to read about rock and where he came from. She chose the book because she loves to play rock, paper, scissors ALL THE TIME!

A silly book on how we have come to play Rock, Paper, Scissors. The illustrations are a great addition to this story. This book is definitely a fun read-a-loud for the whole family.

This book is hilarious. I'm an adult, and I still loved it. The language might be a little lofty at times, and the full scope of the humor might be lost on really young readers ("Bow before our child-pleasing shapes and flavors, sword master!" the dinosaur chicken nuggets say to Scissors at one point), but slightly older children should get plenty of chuckles out of this "legendary" origin story.

This story begs to be read aloud complete with sports announcer style voicework. Kids will love the epic battle sequences leading up to the ultimate showdown.
