Big cat, little cat, written by Elisha Cooper, illustrates the concept of the circle of life with cats. This is a very good book for little kids pets’ who have sadly passed on. It teaches kids that no matter what happens to their pets the circle of life always continues. As the big cat gets older and the little cat learns more and more about their daily life as cats, you begin to pick up this understanding of memory. Not only with pets, but people leave memories too that will last for as long as you cherish them. I really liked this book and I think that this a good read for little kids. The age group that I would recommend this to would be ages 3-6 because toddlers wouldn’t be able to comprehend the concept of death.

Very sweet story about death of a pet and the cycle of life. Simple illustrations and gentle message. Being that the text is spare, this is for a younger audience who is ready to understand the loss of a pet and the replacement with a new younger pet.

This is such a beautiful story. The use of white space in the art adds to the sweet and simple story of the life of a pet cat and the affect it has on the humans who love it. If you are quick to tear up, you might want to read it a couple of times before reading it to your child. It had me getting teary at work!

Very cute story for those of us who have loved and lost a family cat. CAUTION: Do not read to a child unless you plan to add a new cat when you lose one!

Such a lovely book! The illustrations are simple and they lovingly tell the story of life. Adding to a family and then losing a part of it and learning to live with that loss while ultimately still living and loving is so important for everyone to see and feel, no matter the age.

A lovely, gentle story about life, love and grief. It is simple and gentle enough to be suitable for young children. The story and illustrations go together beautifully. Highly recommended.

Beautiful in its simplicity, artistic style, and gentle treatment of friendship and loss. My 4 year old wanted me to read it again and again, and I liked it so much that I didn't mind the repetition.
