A Wolf in the Snow by Matthew Cordell is a mostly wordless picture book, a Little Red Riding Hood adaptation, or fractured fairytale. Find out what happens in this story about a child leaving home to head into the woods.

To be able to tell a story through (mostly) illustrations only, and then to also squeeze all kinds of emotion out of it on top of that, makes this such a fun "read." It obviously follows a storyline, but each viewer is allowed to make their own version of the story, catering to their specific culture, beliefs, current situation, etc. I own this book, and every time we "tell" it, it's always a new version. It's simple enough, yet thorough enough, that any child can follow along and "read" it to you.

Obviously this book is labeled under "fiction," so no need to be critical of whether-or-not this would happen in real life. Part of the joy of being a child, is an endless imagination, the hope for what's to come, the possibility of adventure and discovery, the innocence of animal friends, and the idea that everything is "fixable."

This is my family's all-time favorite wordless child's illustration book.

sorry but this is a touching and stupid fable.

wolf pups are almost full grown by winter

wolves would not concern them selves with a lost child no matter what she had done

a child wandering off the road/path in a blizzard to rescue a wild animal is sweet, endearing and really foolish

A lovely wordless picture book that is full of feeling.

The 2018 Caldecott Medal winner -- for the most distinguished American picture book for children. Wordless story - beautiful and suspenseful!

It's not every wordless picture book that's gorgeously crafted enough to get me a little weepy, but this story of a lost girl and a wolf cub managed to do just that! Beautiful through and through.

This nearly wordless picture book is certainly a page turner! When I started this story, I wasn't sure how much I was going to buy into it because it didn't seem very realistic. But as I turned the page, I was so invested in the little girls' story. The close up illustrations are truly stunning, and the abstractness of the rest of the pages tell a heartwarming story.

The pictures tell the story , heartwarming tale of a little girl and a wolf cub both lost in a snowstorm . Interesting how the Author portrayed that humans and animals are so much alike and animals caring nature . Recommend this book .

Excellent visual storytelling. Only words in the book are sounds. Heartwarming tale.

This is a picture book that will tug at your heart and remind you that animals and people are more alike than they may seem.
