Have you ever seen a cat? Of course, you have. But what if you were a bee – what would a cat look like to you? What if you were a bird in a tree – what would that kitty look like? That is what Brendan depicts in this marvelous book for kids ages 3-5.
Each spread shows a different animal seeing the cat in a different way based on their perspective.
Your kids might enjoy saying the repeated phrase with you … “A Cat walked through the world with its whiskers, ears, and paws …"
This was his debut as both author and illustrator and it captured a 2017 Caldecott Honor AND the 2020 Giverny - a science picture book award.
Brendan -- fascinated with the natural world -- has since created several other fine science related books ….

This is a wonderful book to share with children to help them understand that different people have different ways of looking at things.

A cat goes on a wandering walk and encounters a variety of other animals. But they don't see him the same way we do. This book is full of really cool illustrations that try their hand at showing us how other creatures see things differently than we do. A fun adventure between the pages of a book.

Just what makes up our "perspective" and what difference does it make in how we view others? This is an excellent topic and this simple children's book by Brendan Wenzel makes it possible for children to grasp when read by or with an adult who will engage the child in discussion.

Great use of perspective. The text is repetitive, which would make this great for younger children, although this could also be used with older elementary school children as a tie-in to art lessons on perspective.

2017 Caldecott Honor book. As the cat walks through the world, different creatures see it or sense it in their own unique way; for example, the earthworm senses the cat as vibrations in the ground. Wonderful, unique and creative.

A child, a dog, a fox, a fish, a mouse, a bee, a bird, a flea, a snake, a skunk, a worm, and a bat - each sees the cat, but from its own point of view. Cleverly written with delightfully creative illustrations, this book is a new favorite! ~Debby
