Blood on SnowLarge Print - 2015
This is the story of Olav: an extremely talented "fixer" for one of Oslo's most powerful crime bosses. But Olav is also an unusually complicated fixer. He has a capacity for love that is as far-reaching as is his gift for murder. He is our straightforward, calm-in-the-face-of-crisis narrator with a storyteller's hypnotic knack for fantasy. He has an "innate talent for subordination" but running through his veins is a "virus" born of the power over life and death. And while his latest job puts him at the pinnacle of his trade, it may be mutating into his greatest mistake. . . .

SummaryAdd a Summary
Olav is a "fixer" who is capable of impersonal assassinations but also has a soft spot for damsels in distress. After Hoffmann, Olav's boss, asks Olav to kill his wife for him, Olav is worried he will end up knowing too much and become one of Hoffmann's targets himself. In the following days, Olav races to keep a step ahead of the killers he fears are after him, and readers are offered front-row seats to the chase through his first-person narration. As the finish line approaches we begin to wonder exactly how reliable Olav's narration is, as his grasp on the past and the present loosens and conflicting conclusions to the story are offered.
Olav's complexities, idiosyncrasies, and capacity for love make him a compelling and intriguing character despite his work as an assassin. As Christmas approaches in Oslo, with 1977 set to become a record year for its long cold-streak, the chill of the Norwegian winter finds its way into both the content and the tone of this story. Told in a darkly humorous style, this thriller is compelling, engrossing, and fast-paced. Fans of Scandinavian thrillers, novellas, and cat-and-mouse type stories will enjoy this read by one of the masters of the genre.
