This book is written by an award-winning Canadian science writer, Alanna Mitchell. It is an important and thoughtful "de-mythologizing" of cancer. She argues, through careful analysis of the medical literature and by relaying the experiences of her ill brother-in-law, that we have allowed cancer to become an "irreconcilable trifecta of blame and anxiety... it is inevitable, yet preventable and deserved". Mitchell debunks this view in her short and accessible book. As fellow writer Plum Johnson comments: "By 'liberating the facts,' Mitchell turns the war on cancer into a hopeful dance." Highly recommended.
