Twelve year old Jess has always been a sensitive child-she hears and sees things that other people do not. She discovers an old glass flask hidden in a desk belonging to a favourite Aunt who has recently died. Jess believes the flask contains a life force of some kind. When her twin brothers are born critically ill and surgery is needed, Jess becomes obsessed with interpreting changes in the bottle, and is convinced that the babies’ survival depends on it. To make things worse, Jess and her best friend Zoe are drifting apart leaving Jess to deal with
the situation on her own. Reviewed by JL
