My almost 2 year old loved it. Definitely for a toddler. Especially if you can get the rhythm going! Great book. Had to read it over and over and over!

Read it to my 11 month old and she can barely keep her attention on it. The text were too long and had too much going on in the pictures.

Just before he turned one, my son fell in love with Sally Sutton's "Roadwork." Two and a half years later, it remains among his favourites and we both awaited Sutton's newer book, "Demolition," with anticipation. It did not disappoint. Another excellent read-aloud, the energetic text contains plentiful sound effects such as, "Thud! Creak! Wham!" and "Screech! Scrunch! Rip!" Each two page spread features a different step in the demolition process, from "Grab your Gear" to "Ram the walls" to "Load the trucks" as the debris gets carried off. All of this boisterous destruction ends on a positive note as workers build a playground on the demolition site. One page of facts, describing the functions of each machine shown in the story, wraps everything up into a coherent package.

In addition to all the onomatopoeia, each page rhymes seamlessly, creating a smooth flow. The realistic illustrations appear dusty, mottled and messy, just as you would imagine a real demolition site, yet images are colourful enough to maintain the interest of young listeners. A perfect choice for story time!

We got a ton of mileage from this book — I renewed and took it out multiple times. My almost-2-yr-old loved all the different vehicles and sounds, and the illustrations are great. The last page in the book is a legend that explains some of the equipment.
